CAN DBC (CAN Database)

Section of documentation that describes internal communications (CANBUS) network within Fiskers. Critical to know this to be able to maintain vehicles.

Fisker vehicles have a built-in gateway (aka firewall) between the main CANBUS of the vehicle and the external OBD2 port in vehicle. This gateway prevents simple monitoring of the vehicle CANBUS. The gateway will allow requests (and response if applicable) through the gateway.

There is an alternate diagnostic port. It's appears to be a 31-pin Deutsch (HDP26-24-31ST) connector. This connector is on the "private" side of the gateway for monitoring of all CANBUS traffic. It is located behind the drivers foot well just behind the OBD2 port. Use this to monitor all traffic.

I have successfully used the following OBD2 to USB CANBUS interfaces with this vehicle via SavvyCAN:

  • Peak P-CAN USB

  • Peak P-CAN USB FD

  • CSS Electronics CL2000

The OBD2 - USB interfaces above all use a DB9 plug as its diag port interface. An OBD2 converter cable is then connected to the DB9 plug. Be sure that you get the correct DB9 <-> OBD2 converter cable because the DB9 pin-out is NOT consistent between manufacturers.
